Water in cooling towers is subject to contamination from many sources. The accumulation of suspended solids, dissolved solids (minerals), and micro-biological growth can foul the entire cooling system unless properly controlled as follows:

Remove suspended solids down to five (5) microns;
Remove and prevent the reformation of scale and corrosion caused by dissolved solids (minerals);
Kill and prevent the regrowth of algae and bacteria.

These three mandatory requirements for treating cooling tower and process water are accomplished automatically with the Enviro2000i ™ from IWTE using no chemicals or acids. The only replaceable item in the system is the set of two (2) electrodes in the algae/bacteria control unit and they have an expected life of 18 months, depending upon the geographical location of the unit. Maintenance is limited to one man-hour a week for operation supervision and another man-hour for preventive maintenance.

Replacing chemical treatment with an IWTE system will reduce water loss from blow down (or bleed-off) by up to 50% with the automatic backwash of the filter media and save 100% on chemicals. In addition, it will save energy by increasing the efficiency of heat transfer in heat exchangers and of the pumps in the entire system.
